A UNIQUE PIECE OF ART IN AID OF THE MEMORIAL APPEAL
PLEASE SHARE AS THIS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 25th April DEADLINE NOT 5TH APRIL.
The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment Memorial Appeal Committee has been asked whether it would consider commissioning a sulphur bronze edition of the Memorial maquette for sale in order to raise further funds for the Appeal. The original maquette is made of powder bronze which, whilst perfectly suitable for the purpose of showing the design of the Memorial, is of far lesser quality than if it had been cast in sulphur bronze. The Committee decided at the outset of the project that the maquette would be presented to the Regimental Museum in Halifax and there has never been any intention of putting it up for sale.
The Committee has considered very carefully the idea of commissioning a sulphur bronze edition of the maquette of which there would be one and only one produced and it would, of course, be signed by the artist Andrew Sinclair. Naturally to commission a piece of this size and complexity will be expensive and thus it will be necessary to place a reserve on it. The finished bronze will be approximately 3 feet 6 inches high and the estimated market value of the piece once completed is £15,000. The Committee would like to offer this unique sculpture to the highest bidder through a process of sealed bids with a reserve of £12,000.
